¡Sufren ante Ómicron! EE. UU. supera el millón de casos diarios de coronavirus y establece récord mundial

El coronavirus sigue atacando al mundo y Estados Unidos sufre ante ello, por el inmenso avance de la contagiosa variante Ómicron, la cual ha causado que más de 1 millón de personas en el territorio estadounidense fueran diagnosticadas con covid-19. Esta es la mayor cantidad de casos, por un amplio margen, que cualquier país haya reportado, siendo casi el doble del récord anterior de alrededor de 590,000 establecido hace tan solo cuatro días en el país norteamericano y que, a su vez, se duplicó con respecto a la semana anterior. 

También es más del doble del recuento de casos visto en cualquier otro lugar en cualquier momento desde que comenzó la pandemia desde hace más de dos años, pues, el número más alto fuera de EE. UU. se produjo durante el aumento de la variante Delta, en India, con más de 414,000 personas diagnosticadas el 7 de mayo de 2021.

Los datos son presentados por la Universidad John Hopkins a través de su ‘Coronavirus Resource Center’, y se asegura que son 1,082,549 los nuevos casos contabilizados el día de ayer; los cuales se completaron a la medianoche, hora del este, en Baltimore.

Estas cifras estratosféricas se producen incluso cuando muchos estadounidenses confían en las pruebas que realizan en casa, con resultados que no se informan a las autoridades gubernamentales oficiales. Eso significa que el récord es sin duda una subestimación significativa.

Por otra parte, más de 100,000 personas están actualmente hospitalizadas con covid-19 en Estados Unidos por primera vez en casi cuatro meses, según los últimos datos del Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHS, por sus siglas en inglés). Y las tasas son actualmente más altas en Nueva Jersey, Ohio y, Delaware, donde hay más de 50 hospitalizaciones por covid-19 por cada 100.000 personas.

Además, las hospitalizaciones de niños son las más altas que jamás hayan existido, con más de 500 niños ingresados cada día durante la semana que termina el 31 de diciembre, según datos de los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades de Estados Unidos. También se afirmó que las tasas de hospitalización acumuladas hasta noviembre son aproximadamente ocho veces más altas para los adultos no vacunados y aproximadamente 10 veces más altas para los niños no vacunados de 12 a 17 años.
