Este viernes, el Papa Francisco se presentó de sorpresa en la embajada de Rusia ante la Santa Sede para externar al embajador de Moscú, su preocupación por los ataques de Rusia sobre Ucrania, pese a que esta visita «inesperada» se considera un hecho inusual y no se ajusta a los protocolos normales. Además, de acuerdo con Matteo Bruni, director de la oficina de prensa del Vaticano, el pontífice permaneció al menos 30 minutos en la embajada.
El papa Francisco se reunió con el embajador Alexander Avdeev para intentar mediar en el conflicto entre ese país y Ucrania, desatado tras el ataque a gran escala de Moscú de la madrugada del jueves y manifestó su preocupación por la guerra.
Asimismo, el Pontífice expresó su gran dolor de corazón por el empeoramiento de la situación en el país, el pasado miércoles 23 de febrero, al final de su audiencia general celebrada en el Aula Pablo VI del Vaticano, cuando todavía no había estallado la violencia. En esa ocasión, el Papa lanzó un llamamiento «a quienes tienen responsabilidades políticas para que hagan un serio examen de conciencia ante Dios, que es el Dios de la paz y no de la guerra».
«Como yo, tanta gente en todo el mundo está atravesando angustia y preocupación. Una vez más la paz de todos está amenazada por intereses de partes», planteó, al terminar su tradicional encuentro semanal con fieles.
